Preparing a MySQL Connection

The MySQL ODBC drivers can be downloaded from here. The download contains drivers and client connectivity software allowing ODBC datasource setup.
Note that the v5.2 drivers are, at the time of writing (Sept 2014) not working correctly on 64-bit platforms – they generate fatal errors when any application tries to extract a list of tables. On 64-bit platforms you should revert to v5.1 ODBC drivers which work successfully (although do not return lists of tables).
On 32-bit Windows platforms all versions of MySQL ODBC drivers work correctly.
Configuring the ODBC Connection
Once the correct drivers are installed, setting up an ODBC connection to a MySQL database is straightforward.

When it has been set up correctly you can the create a connection.
